Perez Dominates in Mets’ Win

Mets 3 Phillies 1
Oliver Perez recorded a season-high 12 strikeouts, while giving up only 6 hits and 1 earned run in  7 2/3 innings.  He was unable to get the win because it took the Mets until the eighth inning to break the 1-1 tie.  The tiebreaker came in the form of Carlos Delgado, who delivered a clutch two out, two run double.  Jaime Moyer was arguably just as impressive as Perez going 7 innings surrendering two hits and 1 ER.  Jason Werth hit a solo home run in the seventh accounting for the lone Philadelphia run.  The Phillies will now head back to Philly to start up a series with the Braves. Kyle Kendrick (8-4) will take the hill against Jair Jurrjens (9-5).  The Mets will welcome in the Cards, who are coming off a disappointing sweep at the hands of the Brewers.  Mike Pelfrey (8-6) will go for the Mets against Mitchell Boggs (3-1).

Mets, Braves Win

Mets 6 Mets 3
John Maine and Brett Myers faced off as the Mets looked to rejoin the Phillies atop the NL East.  After the Phillies shocked the Mets in the 9th last night, New York were out seeking revenge.  Jose Reyes proved to be the difference as his three-run homer in the 6th gave the Mets the win.  Tomorrow’s rubber game will decide who wins the series and takes the division lead heading into the weekend.  Jaime Moyer and Oliver Perez will be pitching in the 12.10 start.

Braves 9 Marlins 4

The Braves busted out after  getting only one hit in last night’s loss.  Nolasco struggled as the Braves knocked him around for 8 hits and 5 ER in 5 innings.  Hudson pitched a gem until he was forced to leave the game in the sixth with an elbow injury.  Chipper was also injured in the game, straining his left hamstring trying to beat out an infield grounder.  The Marlins got all four of their runs in the 9th  making the score more respectable.  The Braves have an off day tomorrow, while the Marlins will head to Chicago to face the Cubs.
